Charlotte to Asheville in a Luxury Rental: Planning a Blue Ridge Mountain Getaway

Custom black Lamborghini Urus SUV available to rent from Royal Rentals in Charlotte for a mountain getaway

Within a few hours of Charlotte, the Piedmont gives way to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Asheville sits right in the middle of them. Galleries, a celebrated food scene, the Biltmore Estate and some of the most scenic roads in the East make it a favorite weekend escape. Driving from Charlotte to Asheville in a luxury rental turns the trip into part of the getaway. Here is how to plan it with Royal Rentals.

The Drive from Charlotte to Asheville

Most drivers head west from Charlotte on Interstate 85 or US 74, then continue on Interstate 26 or 40 into the mountains. The trip typically takes a little over two hours each way, depending on traffic and your route. The last hour is the best part, as the road climbs and the ridgelines come into view.

Once you arrive, the Blue Ridge Parkway runs right past Asheville. It is a paved, two-lane scenic road with overlooks, tunnels and long views across the mountains, and it is the reason many people make the trip. Sections of the Parkway can close for weather or maintenance, especially in winter, so check the National Park Service's road status before you go.

Choosing a Car for the Mountains

For Comfort and Presence: The Custom Black Lamborghini Urus

Our Custom Black Lamborghini Urus is a natural fit for a mountain weekend. It has room for passengers and luggage, a comfortable ride on the interstate, and plenty of presence when you pull up to a hotel or a downtown restaurant.

For an Iconic Road Trip: The Mercedes G63

The Mercedes G63 is built for a weekend away. It has a commanding view of the road, space for bags and a look that suits both mountain scenery and Asheville's downtown.

For Two: The Corvette C8

Traveling as a couple and packing light? The Corvette C8 Silver makes the winding sections of the trip more fun. It is the most engaging drive in our Charlotte fleet.

Plan Your Miles and Time

A mountain getaway is a road trip, and the mileage adds up. Each rental includes 75 to 120 miles per day depending on the vehicle, and additional miles are billed at 50 cents or $1 per mile. A round trip to Asheville, plus scenic drives once you are there, will usually go past one day's allowance.

Book for the whole weekend. A multi-day rental gives you more included miles and the freedom to explore without watching the clock.

Plan your scenic loops. Decide which stretches of the Parkway or which day trips matter most, then fit them into your mileage.

Stay inside the radius. Vehicles must stay within 200 miles of the pickup location's zip code. Asheville is well inside that limit, but call us before planning anything farther.

A Sample Mountain Weekend

Pick up your car in Charlotte on Friday afternoon and head west, arriving in Asheville in time for dinner downtown. Spend Saturday morning on the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at paved overlooks for photos, then visit the Biltmore Estate or explore the River Arts District in the afternoon. On Sunday, enjoy a slow breakfast, take one more scenic drive and make the easy return trip to Charlotte, timing your return to avoid late fees.

Tips for a Smooth Mountain Weekend

Stick to Paved Roads

Mountain areas have plenty of gravel and dirt roads leading to cabins, trailheads and viewpoints. Our Terms & Conditions do not allow driving on unpaved surfaces, so check the access road if you are staying somewhere remote.

Check Weather Before You Leave

Conditions in the mountains can be very different from Charlotte, especially in late fall and winter. Our terms do not allow refunds or date changes for unexpected weather, so check the forecast before you book your dates.

Fuel Up Thoughtfully

Use 91 octane or higher fuel, and return the car with at least as much fuel as you received. Fill up in town before heading onto the Parkway, where services are limited.

Keep the Cabin Clean

Mountain weekends mean hiking boots and muddy trails. The car must be returned clean inside and out, so pack a bag for muddy gear, and remember that smoking of any kind in the vehicle forfeits the entire deposit.

How Booking Works

The entire rental process is online. Complete the Book Now form at royalrentals.io/rentals, choose Charlotte and select your vehicle. You will upload a valid driver's license and an active full coverage insurance policy in the same name, then submit payment and the security deposit. Drivers must be at least 21, and some vehicles require drivers to be 25 or older.
