Charlotte to Myrtle Beach in a Luxury Rental: How to Plan a Grand Strand Road Trip

Custom black Lamborghini Urus luxury SUV rental from Royal Rentals Charlotte for a road trip to Myrtle Beach

When Charlotte locals want sand and salt air, Myrtle Beach is one of the first places they think of. The drive takes you across the Carolinas to the Grand Strand, a long stretch of beaches, boardwalks, golf courses and seafood spots along the South Carolina coast. Doing that drive in a luxury rental turns a routine beach trip into a proper getaway. This guide covers how to choose the right car, how to plan your miles and what booking with Royal Rentals involves.

Choosing the Right Car for a Beach Trip

A beach weekend means luggage, coolers, beach chairs and probably a few friends. That makes the choice of car more important than it is for a night out in Uptown.

Custom Black Lamborghini Urus

The Custom Black Lamborghini Urus is the pick if you want supercar presence with real space. It seats four adults, has a usable cargo area and arrives at an oceanfront resort like nothing else in the valet line.

Mercedes G63

The Mercedes G63 is the classic choice for a group. It sits tall, rides comfortably on the highway and has room for weekend bags. It is also one of the most photographed vehicles you can park by the beach.

Corvette C8 Silver

For a couple's weekend with light luggage, the Corvette C8 Silver is the driver's choice. It is a mid-engine two-seater, so pack soft bags and keep it simple.

Planning the Drive

Timing

The trip usually takes about three and a half to four hours each way, depending on your route, traffic and stops. Summer weekends and holiday Fridays get busy, so leave early in the morning or travel midweek if you can. An early start also means you reach the coast in time for lunch on the water.

Distance and Mileage

Myrtle Beach is a long drive, and it is worth planning your miles before you book. Our Terms & Conditions require the car to stay within a 200-mile radius of the pickup location's zip code, so map your full itinerary, including any side trips down the coast, and confirm it with our Charlotte team before you go. Each rental includes 75 to 120 miles per day depending on the vehicle, and extra miles cost 50 cents or $1 each. A round trip plus driving around the Grand Strand adds up quickly, which is why most guests book a multi-day rental for this trip.

Fuel

Fill up with 91 octane or higher, and return the car with the same fuel level or more. Plan a fuel stop on the way back so you are not searching for premium gas near the end of your rental.

Making the Most of the Grand Strand

Oceanfront Arrivals

Ocean Boulevard is lined with resorts and hotels, and pulling up in a black Urus or a G-Wagon makes the start of the weekend feel like an event. Ask your hotel about valet or covered parking ahead of time.

Dining and Shopping

Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing and The Market Common are all easy drives along the Strand, with restaurants, shops and evening entertainment. For seafood, many visitors head south to the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk.

Golf and Gardens

The area is known for golf, and many courses are a short drive from the beach. If you want something quieter, Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park sit to the south.

Keep the Car Off the Sand

Our terms do not allow driving on unpaved surfaces, and that includes sand and dirt lots. Park on pavement, rinse sand off your feet before getting in and keep wet towels in a bag. The car must be returned clean inside and out or a cleaning fee of at least $60 applies.

What Booking Requires

The entire rental process is online. Complete the Book Now form at royalrentals.io/rentals, choose Charlotte and select your car. You will upload a valid driver's license and an active full coverage insurance policy in the same name that stays active until at least seven days after the return. A security deposit is held from one day before your rental until seven days after, and you need at least $5,000 available. If you pay with a debit card, the deposit must be provided in cash.

Drivers must be at least 21, and certain vehicles require drivers to be 25 or older. One additional driver is allowed if named on the contract and signed, which is useful for sharing the drive.

Weather and Cancellations

Coastal weather can change quickly, especially during storm season. Our Cancellation Policy gives a full refund for cancellations made at least 24 hours before pickup, and none within 24 hours. Refunds and date changes are not available because of unexpected weather, so check the forecast before you book.
