Exotic Car Rental Security Deposit and Requirements: What to Have Ready Before You Book

The fun part of an exotic car rental is choosing the car. The part that decides whether your booking goes smoothly is everything that comes before it: your age, your license, your insurance and the security deposit. Knowing these requirements ahead of time means no surprises at checkout and no last-minute calls to your insurance company. This guide explains how the security deposit works at Royal Rentals and lists everything you need to have ready, whether you are renting in Scottsdale or Charlotte.
Why Exotic Rentals Have Stricter Requirements
A supercar or high-end luxury SUV is a very different responsibility from an everyday rental car. Repairs are specialized, parts can take time to source and the cars are often irreplaceable in the short term. Requirements like full coverage insurance and a security deposit protect the car, the next renter and you. They are also why the cars in our fleet stay in the condition you see in the photos.
The Security Deposit, Explained
How Much You Need Available
You must have at least $5,000 available on your credit card limit or in your bank account. This applies across the fleet, from the Lamborghini Urus to the Escalade Premium Luxury.
When It Is Held and Released
The deposit is held starting one day before your rental period and stays in place until seven days after the rental ends. That window gives us time to review the car after return and settle any extra charges before the hold is released.
What It Can Cover
Any excess charges you owe are deducted from the security deposit. Under our Terms & Conditions, those can include:
Extra mileage: Rentals include 75 to 120 miles per day depending on the vehicle, and additional miles cost 50 cents or $1 each.
Late return: $50 for every 30 minutes after the agreed return time.
Cleaning: A cleaning fee of at least $60 if the car is not returned clean inside and out.
Fuel: If the car comes back with less fuel than it left with, you pay $20 plus the cost of the difference in 91 octane gas.
Tolls, tickets and parking: You are responsible for all of them during your rental.
What Forfeits the Whole Deposit
Smoking of any kind in the vehicle forfeits the entire deposit. Breaking the prohibited-use rules, such as taking the car to a track or racing it, can also put the entire deposit at risk.
Paying With a Debit Card or Cash
If you pay with a debit card, the security deposit must be provided in cash. If you pay the rental itself in cash, both the rental cost and the security deposit are paid in cash.
Driver Requirements
Age
Drivers must be at least 21 years old. Certain vehicles require drivers to be at least 25, and the requirement is shown for each car when you book.
Driver's License
You need a valid, active driver's license, and you must carry it whenever you drive the car.
Full Coverage Insurance
You must show an active full coverage insurance policy in the same name as your driver's license before pickup. The policy must stay active until at least seven days after the car is returned. Call your insurance company before you book to confirm your coverage is full coverage and that the dates work.
Additional Drivers
One additional driver is allowed. That person must be named on the contract and sign and initial it. Nobody else may drive the car.
A Pre-Booking Checklist
Confirm the driver's age meets the requirement for the car you want.
Have your driver's license ready to upload.
Get your full coverage insurance declarations page and check that the name matches your license.
Make sure at least $5,000 is available on your card or in your account for the deposit.
Decide whether you will pick up or need delivery. Delivery and return within 15 miles of our office are $60 each way.
Plan your route. The car must stay within a 200-mile radius of the pickup zip code.
Read our Cancellation Policy. Cancelling at least 24 hours before pickup gets a full refund, and cancellations within 24 hours are not refunded.
Tips for Getting Your Full Deposit Back
Most of the deposit questions we hear come down to a few simple habits. Return the car on time, with the same fuel level or more, using 91 octane or higher. Keep the interior clean and never smoke in it. Stay on paved roads, keep it under 100 mph and keep track of your mileage. Take your own photos at pickup and return for your records.
