Charlotte to Pinehurst in a Luxury Rental: Planning a Golf Trip to the Sandhills

Pinehurst is one of the most famous golf destinations in the country, and it is within easy driving distance of Charlotte. The village and its resort courses have hosted the U.S. Open several times, and the area around Pinehurst and Southern Pines is full of well-known courses set among longleaf pines and sandy soil. For golfers flying into Charlotte or locals planning a guys' trip, renting a luxury car for the drive turns a golf weekend into something more memorable. This guide covers the route, how to choose a car that fits your clubs, and how to plan your mileage.
The Drive From Charlotte to Pinehurst
Pinehurst is roughly 100 to 110 miles east of Charlotte, and the drive usually takes around two hours depending on the route and traffic. Most drivers head east out of the city on state and U.S. highways through smaller towns and rolling countryside rather than interstate, which makes the drive more interesting than a straight highway run. Leaving Charlotte early in the morning helps you avoid commuter traffic and makes a same-day tee time realistic.
Plan Around Your Tee Time
Work backward from your first tee time. Add the drive, a fuel stop and time to check in and warm up. If you are playing early on day one, driving over the evening before and staying the night is the most relaxed option.
A Drive Worth Taking Slowly
The roads into the Sandhills are mostly two-lane through small towns, so posted limits change often. Our terms prohibit speeds above 100 mph, racing and speed tests, and tickets are the renter's responsibility, so enjoy the scenery and keep it easy.
Which Charlotte Rental Fits a Golf Trip
Our Charlotte fleet has three very different options, and the right one depends mostly on how many players and bags are going.
Two Players With Clubs: Lamborghini Urus
The Custom Black Lamborghini Urus is the best all-around choice. It seats four, has a real cargo area for golf bags and luggage, and it still delivers the exotic sound and performance that make the drive fun. For two players with full bags and weekend luggage, it is the most practical exotic in the fleet.
The Statement SUV: Mercedes G63
The Mercedes G63 is the other SUV option. Its upright shape gives it good headroom and a usable cargo area, and it has a presence that suits a resort arrival. It is a strong pick for two or three players who want a comfortable cabin for the drive.
The Solo Golfer or Couple: Corvette C8
The Corvette C8 is a two-seat, mid-engine sports car with front and rear storage. It is the most driver-focused car of the three, but space is limited, so measure your bag and luggage against the car before you commit. It works best for one golfer with one bag, or for a couple who are not bringing two full sets.
You can compare all three on our Charlotte rentals page.
Plan Your Mileage Before You Book
A round trip to Pinehurst is roughly 200 to 220 miles before any driving around the area between courses, restaurants and your hotel. Our rentals include 75 to 120 miles per day depending on the vehicle, and extra miles cost $0.50 or $1 each depending on the car. A two- or three-day rental fits a typical golf weekend well and spreads the miles across the trip. Pinehurst is comfortably inside the 200-mile radius from the pickup zip code that applies to every rental.
Fuel, Cleaning and Return
Use 91 octane or higher fuel and return the car with the same fuel level or more. Golf trips can mean grass, sand and damp shoes in the cabin, so keep clubs in a bag and shoes in a separate bag. The car should come back clean inside and out to avoid a cleaning fee of at least $60, and smoking of any sort, including cigars on the course drive, forfeits the entire deposit.
Make a Weekend of It
Pinehurst village is walkable, with restaurants, shops and historic buildings close to the resort. Southern Pines, next door, has its own downtown with places to eat after a round. If the group wants to keep driving, the region's back roads through the pines make an easy afternoon drive on a rest day, as long as you stay on paved roads, which our terms require.
