Lincoln Navigator vs Cadillac Escalade: Which Full-Size Luxury SUV Should You Rent in Scottsdale?

Black Lincoln Navigator from the Royal Rentals Scottsdale fleet, a full-size luxury SUV compared with the Cadillac Escalade

When a Scottsdale trip involves more than two people, the conversation usually moves from supercars to SUVs. Our Scottsdale fleet includes two full-size American luxury SUVs that are built for exactly that job: the Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury. Both carry a group in comfort, both have three rows of seating and both make an impression at a resort entrance. So how do you choose? This guide compares the two side by side for the trips our Scottsdale and Phoenix renters actually take, from airport pickups and golf weekends to family visits and nights out in Old Town.

The Short Answer

Both SUVs are excellent choices, and neither one is the wrong answer. The Escalade tends to suit renters who want a bold, high-profile look that stands out at the valet stand. The Navigator tends to suit renters who want a calm, relaxed cabin for longer days on the road. If your plans are flexible, choose based on style and availability. If one of them is already booked for your dates, the other will handle the same trip just as well.

How the Two SUVs Compare

Style and Presence

The Cadillac Escalade Premium Luxury is one of the most recognizable SUVs on the road. Its tall, upright front end and long profile are a familiar sight outside hotels, events and private aviation terminals, and it has a strong executive feel. If you are hosting clients, arriving at a celebration or want photos that look like a red carpet arrival, the Escalade delivers that statement.

The Lincoln Navigator has a smoother, more understated presence. In black it looks sharp and polished without being loud. Renters who prefer a refined arrival rather than a headline-making one often lean toward the Navigator.

Comfort on Longer Drives

Both SUVs are designed for comfortable highway travel, which matters in the Valley, where a day can include a drive from Scottsdale to downtown Phoenix, a trip out to the West Valley and dinner back in North Scottsdale. The Navigator is known for a quiet, relaxed cabin that suits long stretches of road. The Escalade offers a premium cabin with a strong focus on technology and finish. Either way, your passengers ride in comfort, which is the point of renting a full-size SUV in the first place.

Passengers and Luggage

These are the two most practical vehicles in our Scottsdale fleet for groups. Each has three rows, so they work for families, wedding parties and friends traveling together. Keep in mind that luggage space shrinks when every seat is in use. If you are picking up a full group at the airport with large suitcases or golf bags, consider whether some bags can travel separately, or plan for the third row to be partly folded.

Driving Feel

Neither SUV is a sports car, and that is not why you rent one. Both are large vehicles, so give yourself a few minutes to get used to their size before tackling tight resort parking garages or busy Old Town streets. Take corners gently, leave extra space when parking and use the cameras and sensors to help with tight spots.

Which SUV Fits Your Trip?

Airport Pickups and Resort Arrivals

For a polished arrival with a group, both SUVs work. If you are greeting guests or clients and want an unmistakable executive look, the Escalade is the classic choice. If you want a calm ride after a long flight, the Navigator is a great fit.

Family Visits and Holidays

Late fall and the holidays bring a lot of family travel to Scottsdale and Phoenix. Grandparents, kids and luggage all fit more comfortably in a three-row SUV than in two separate cars. Choose whichever SUV is available for your dates, and book early around Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, when demand is higher.

Golf Weekends and Group Outings

Scottsdale is one of the country's best-known golf destinations, and a full-size SUV keeps a group together on the way to the course. Remember that clubs take space, so check how many bags and passengers you are carrying before you choose.

Nights Out in Old Town

For dinner and nightlife, either SUV gets the group there together. Plan your ride home before the night begins. If anyone is drinking, use a designated driver or a rideshare and pick the SUV up the next day.

What You Need to Rent Either SUV

The requirements are the same for both vehicles and are listed in our terms and conditions:

Drivers must be 21 or older (25 or older for certain vehicles) with a valid license and full-coverage insurance in the same name, active until at least 7 days after the return.

One additional driver is allowed if they are named on the contract and sign it, which is useful for group trips where driving is shared.

The deposit is held from 1 day before until 7 days after the rental, and you need $5,000 available. If you pay by debit card, the deposit is made in cash.

The vehicle must stay within a 200-mile radius of the pickup zip code. Daily mileage is 75 to 120 miles depending on the vehicle, and extra miles are charged at $0.50 or $1 per mile.

Use 91 octane or higher fuel and return the SUV with the same fuel level or more.

Delivery and return within 15 miles of the office cost $60 each.

A full-size SUV carries a lot of people, so cleanliness matters. The cleaning fee is at least $60, and smoking in the vehicle forfeits the entire deposit. Late returns are charged $50 per 30 minutes.

Tips for Booking a Full-Size Luxury SUV in Scottsdale

Book early for peak dates. Fall, winter and spring are the busiest seasons in Scottsdale, and three-row luxury SUVs are popular with families and groups.

Count your passengers and your bags honestly. A comfortable trip depends on both, not just the number of seats.

Name your second driver when you book if you plan to share the driving.

Plan your route with the mileage allowance in mind. A day trip to Sedona or Prescott adds up quickly, so build in extra days or budget for extra miles.
