Ferrari 488 vs McLaren 720S: Which Supercar Should You Rent in Scottsdale?

Two of the most requested cars in our Scottsdale fleet are the white Ferrari 488 Spider and the white McLaren 720S Spider. Both are mid-engine, twin-turbo V8 convertibles, both are fast enough to make any drive memorable, and both turn heads anywhere in the valley. So which one should you rent? This side-by-side guide compares the Ferrari 488 and McLaren 720S on the things that matter for a rental: character, comfort, the kind of day you have planned and what you need before you book.
The Short Answer
Choose the Ferrari 488 if you want classic Italian drama, a car that feels emotional and expressive, and a badge that everyone recognizes instantly. Choose the McLaren 720S if you want the most futuristic experience, with dramatic dihedral doors, a cockpit-like cabin and a car that feels precise and almost technical in the way it drives. Neither is the wrong choice. The right one depends on the kind of day you want.
Ferrari 488 Spider: Italian Theater
What It Feels Like
The 488 Spider is the car most people picture when they think of an exotic rental. It has a mid-mounted twin-turbo V8, a retractable hardtop that turns it into an open-air car in seconds, and the prancing horse on the nose. It feels lively and expressive, and it makes every on-ramp and every slow cruise through Old Town feel like an event.
Who It Suits
The Ferrari is perfect for birthdays, anniversaries, proposals and anyone checking a lifelong dream off the list. If the photos matter as much as the drive, the white 488 is hard to beat. We cover it in more depth in our Ferrari 488 Spider rental guide.
McLaren 720S Spider: Precision and Presence
What It Feels Like
The 720S Spider is a different kind of supercar. Its doors swing up and out, the cabin wraps around the driver, and the car feels light, sharp and focused. Our 720S is white with a blue interior, which makes it one of the most distinctive cars in the valley. It also has a retractable hardtop for open-air driving.
Who It Suits
The McLaren suits drivers who want the most modern, cutting-edge experience and people who love the idea of arriving with the doors up. It is a statement at any resort valet and a favorite for content creators. Our McLaren 720S Spider guide goes into more detail on planning the day.
Side by Side: What Matters for a Rental
Arrivals and Photos
Both cars draw a crowd. The Ferrari has the most recognizable badge in the world. The McLaren has the doors. If you are planning photos, both look best in the soft desert light just after sunrise or before sunset.
Everyday Practicality
Both are two-seaters with limited luggage space, so plan to travel light. If you need room for bags, golf clubs or more than one passenger, consider pairing a supercar day with one of our luxury SUVs, such as the Lamborghini Urus, or choose the SUV for the whole trip.
Getting In and Out
Both cars sit low. The McLaren's upward-opening doors make for a dramatic entrance but take a moment to get used to. The Ferrari has conventional doors. Neither is ideal for steep driveways, so let us know about your pickup or delivery location when you book.
Best Scottsdale Drives for Either Car
Either supercar shines on the paved desert roads north of town. Popular options include the drive toward Cave Creek and Carefree, the roads around the McDowell Mountains and a cruise along Scottsdale Road to Old Town. Keep in mind that every rental must stay on paved roads and within 200 miles of the pickup zip code, and mileage is 75 to 120 miles per day depending on the vehicle, so plan longer routes ahead of time.
Speed limits still apply. Our terms prohibit track use, racing, speed tests or demonstrations and driving over 100 mph in any of our cars.
What to Know Before You Book Either Car
Drivers must be 21 or older, and certain vehicles require drivers to be 25 or older. The requirement for each car is shown when you book.
You need a valid driver's license and full-coverage insurance in the same name, active until at least 7 days after the return.
A deposit is held from 1 day before until 7 days after the rental, and you need $5,000 available. Paying by debit card means a cash deposit.
Use 91 octane or higher fuel and return the car with the same fuel level or more.
Delivery and return within 15 miles of our office cost $60 each.
For the full rules, read our terms and conditions before you book.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ferrari 488 or McLaren 720S faster?
Both are extremely fast supercars, and either one has far more performance than you can use on public roads. Choose based on character and the experience you want, not on numbers.
Are both cars convertibles?
Yes. Our Ferrari 488 and McLaren 720S are both Spider versions with retractable hardtops.
Can I rent both cars on the same trip?
Yes. Many renters book one car for one day and the other for the next. Each rental is booked separately through the Book Now form, subject to availability.
Which car is better for a first-time exotic renter?
Both are approachable when driven sensibly. The Ferrari has conventional doors and a familiar layout, which some first-timers prefer. The McLaren's doors and cockpit feel take a moment to learn but quickly become part of the fun.
